Internships

The internship program offers students an excellent opportunity to serve their community, as well as to learn through hands on-experience. The program aims to give students the knowledge, tools, and experience needed to pursue future professional goals. Interns are expected to commit to the program and will have the opportunity to make a genuine contribution to the Congressman’s work on behalf of the 29th District. District Office- Panorama City.

General responsibilities include:

  • Attending local events with staff
  • Answering constituent phone correspondence
  • Conducting legislative research
  • Assist with constituent casework
  • Work on District-based projects with staff

The District Office requires a minimum participation of 15 hours per week

Washington DC- Rayburn House Building:

Hours are flexible to accommodate students' hectic course schedules, but generally run 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. when Congress is in session, and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. when not in session.

General responsibilities include:

  • Attending briefings on behalf of staff
  • Answering constituent phone correspondence
  • Front office administrative duties
  • Legislative research
  • Lead tours of the U.S. Capitol
  • Assist with constituent correspondence letters
  • Other duties as assigned

Paid Internship Program

Recently the House Administration granted Congressional offices to pay their interns. As such, this program requires that each paid intern work full time beginning at 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in session and 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. non-session days, Monday through Friday. Transit benefits are available to paid interns only in the Washington DC office.
