Cárdenas Partners with The Weather Channel to Make Constituents Aware of the Need for Severe Weather Preparedness

SAN FERNANDO VALLEY, Calif.  – U.S. Representative Tony Cárdenas (D-CA) stresses the importance of severe weather preparedness in a newly created Public Service Announcement (PSA). The locally targeted PSA, recorded in partnership with The Weather Channel television network, is airing on the network throughout the summer. Footage from the PSA can be found on the Congressman’s Facebook and website.

“Severe weather affects us all,” said Rep. Cárdenas.  “Our first line of defense against severe weather is preparedness. I encourage members of the community to create an emergency plan, practice that plan and always stay alert and weather-ready.”

Dave Shull, CEO of The Weather Channel television network, said that “being prepared saves lives when severe weather is approaching. We are grateful for Rep.Cárdenas’ work in helping us to spread the important message of severe weather preparedness to his community. Our core mission at the network is to provide the public with scientific expertise and extensive coverage of severe weather events, and we are pleased to work with Rep. Cárdenas on this important initiative.”

Over the past six years, the cost of storms nationwide has risen to over $250 billion, with thousands of lives lost. At a time when weather emergencies are more frequent, The Weather Channel is the leading source for storm coverage, delivering comprehensive, accurate, science-based weather information with meteorological expertise.
