CÁRDENAS RECOGNIZES SMALL BUSINESS WEEK

CÁRDENAS RECOGNIZES SMALL BUSINESS WEEK

(Washington, DC) -- This week, U.S. Rep. Tony Cárdenas (D-San Fernando Valley) joined 46 other members of the U.S. House of Representatives, co-sponsoring a resolution honoring National Small Business Week (May 12-16).

Cárdenas is a former small business owner who is committed to helping small businesses in the Valley grow both their customer base and workforce.

“I know that small businesses form the fabric of every community in America,” said Cárdenas. “Our nation grows and innovates with speed and imagination that is the envy of the world because of the entrepreneurial nature of our people. Small businesses are the way that spirit of creation and innovation shows itself each and every day.”

The 28 million small businesses in the United States create 7 out of every 10 new jobs.  These small businesses accounted for 63 percent of net new jobs created between 1993 and 2013. Since the end of the recession, small firms accounted for 60 percent of all net new jobs.

During his time in Congress, Cárdenas has joined Democrats in supporting small business tax credits; expanding financing options for small business owners, particularly in the Latino community and; most importantly, leading the way on Comprehensive Immigration Reform, which will add 120,000 jobs a year, drastically increase America’s consumer base and supercharge our economy.

This year, Cárdenas has joined the New Democratic Coalition to encourage reauthorization of the U.S. Export-Import (Ex-Im) Bank, which is scheduled to be reauthorized this year. Last year, Ex-Im authorized $5.2 billion in export financing for small businesses.
