Cárdenas Statement on NCAA Decision to Allow Student Athletes to Profit from Stardom
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) voted unanimously to allow student-athletes the opportunity to profit from their name, image, and likeness. Congressman Tony Cárdenas, founder of the Congressional Student-Athlete Protection Caucus, releases the following statement:
“I have been fighting for the rights of student-athletes for years, and finally, the NCAA is providing a fair opportunity for the athletes,” said Congressman Cárdenas. “Student-athletes put their physical health on the line and generate billions of dollars in revenue for the NCAA, colleges, and universities. It is wrong to take the best that the students have to offer and prevent them and their families from sharing in the profits.”
