Cárdenas Statement on Ramon Lopez and Jacob Blake
WASHINGTON, DC –Congressman Tony Cárdenas (CA-29) releases the following statement on the killing of Ramon Timothy Lopez and the shooting of Jacob Blake by law enforcement:
“Over the past few days, footage of the killing of a Brown man and the shooting of a Black man at the hands of law enforcement have surfaced. Jacob Blake, an unarmed Black man, was shot seven times in the back in front of his three young children and is now in serious condition. Ramon Lopez, an unarmed Latino, was killed after being restrained as police officers held him down for six minutes with their knees on his back in 100-degree Arizona heat. He was killed over a 99-cent drink. Jacob and Ramon are victims of an out of control and unfair justice system that views Brown and Black lives as less valuable than White lives. Both cases must be fully investigated and those involved in those incidents must be held accountable. We need justice, equal justice, for Jacob and Ramon. This must stop.”
