Cárdenas Announces New Chief of Staff

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Tony Cárdenas (CA-29) announced that Ahmed Elsayed, former Communications Director, has been named Chief of Staff, following the departure of Tejasi Thatte.

“It’s an honor to welcome Ahmed back to our team in a new role,” said Congressman Cárdenas. “Ahmed has always been an indispensable member of our team, going above and beyond the call of duty to serve our constituents and get the job done. His strong communications and leadership background make him the perfect fit to guide our office to continue our work to serve the North East San Fernando Valley.”

“I also want to thank my longtime friend, Tejasi Thatte, for serving as my Chief of Staff for the past year. Her leadership on our team will be missed, but we wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors,” continued Congressman Cárdenas.

“I am so proud and excited to return to the Office of Congressman Cárdenas,” said Ahmed Elsayed. “It’s not every day people get to work for and alongside someone who truly lives out their values and believes in making a difference in their community and country. That can only happen when you’re part of a hard-working team like this one, where everyone works day in and day out to fight for working families, communities of color and those who’ve historically been marginalized. I’m no stranger to this office, and I’m ready to hit the ground running for our constituents.”

Ahmed Elsayed most recently served as National Press Secretary for the Office of Senator Cory Booker after working as Communications Director for Congressman Cárdenas for nearly two years. Prior to his service in Congress, he served as the Deputy Communications Director and Traveling Chief of Staff for Congressman John Delaney’s presidential campaign. He is a graduate of Rutgers University.
