Cárdenas Appointed Vice Chair of Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Tony Cárdenas (CA-29) was appointed Vice Chair of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Commerce for the 117th Congress.
“I am honored to continue serving as Vice Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee. These next two years, as we rebuild and lift our nation out of this hole dug by the previous administration, the leadership and work of this committee will be critical to ensuring that Americans get a fair shake,” said Congressman Cardenas. “Inevitably, bad actors will attempt to prey on vulnerable Americans for corporate profit and it is our job to fight back. I’m proud to continue serving alongside Chair Schakowsky to protect American consumers and work with our colleagues and President Biden as we Build Back Better.”

The Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee jurisdiction includes: Interstate and foreign commerce, including all trade matters within the jurisdiction of the full committee; regulation of commercial practices, including sports-related matters; consumer affairs and consumer protection,; consumer privacy and data security; cybersecurity; consumer product safety; product liability; motor vehicle safety; regulation of travel, tourism, and time; the Federal Trade Commission; the Consumer Protection Safety Commission; the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration; National Semiconductor Technology Center; and all aspects of the above-referenced jurisdiction related to the Department of Commerce and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
Congressman Cárdenas previously served as Vice-Chair in the 116th Congress. Cárdenas also sits on the subcommittees on Health and Communications & Technology.
