Cárdenas Calls on the Impeachment and Removal of Donald Trump from Office
What happened today was truly the most heartbreaking and anti-American moment I have witnessed in my 25 years of public service. Never would I have imagined that citizens of this great nation would attempt a coup because they were unwilling to accept the results of a fair election. Make no mistake: this was an attempted coup orchestrated and encouraged by Donald Trump and his allies in Congress.
What happened today was disgraceful and it should never happen again. Those who incited violence, encouraged this insurrection, and baselessly lied about the outcome of our lawful presidential election must be held accountable. That is why I am supporting the impeachment and immediate removal of Donald Trump from office. Every day that this dangerous man is president of the United States, we are all at risk. Our citizens, families, and American democracy. He insisted that this mob take their anger to the People’s House and encouraged violence against everyone in the U.S. Capitol. Donald Trump must be removed from office; either by impeachment proceedings or by the Vice President and the cabinet invoking the 25th amendment. We cannot have 14 more days of this tyrant in the White House. Those in Congress who have been complicit in the grossly dangerous behavior should resign. Enough.
