Cárdenas Requests Over $17.5 Million in Federal Funds for San Fernando Valley Community Initiatives
The Congressman submitted Community Project Funding Requests to support housing for the homeless, job training, youth programs and mental health services in his district
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Earlier this month, Congressman Tony Cárdenas (CA-29) announced he is requesting $17,750,638 in federal funding for initiatives and programs in the San Fernando Valley. The Community Project Funding (CPF) requests were submitted to the House Committee on Appropriations for consideration for FY2022.
“As a Member of Congress, my number one priority is to take care of the people living in my home community – California’s 29th District,” said Congressman Cárdenas. “The Community Project Funding Program is giving us an opportunity to invest federal dollars on projects that will make a real difference in the San Fernando Valley. The requests I submitted on behalf of my constituents will support local initiatives to provide housing for individuals experiencing homelessness, increase job training opportunities, enhance educational and youth programs for low-income families, create new recreational areas, clean up our neighborhoods and help families in need of mental healthcare services.”
“Thank you to all the local leaders who worked with our office throughout this process. The San Fernando Valley is at its best when we come together to prioritize the needs of our constituents. Now, let’s continue this fight to bring home federal dollars that will help our community now and in the long run,” continued Congressman Cárdenas.
New rules adopted by the House of Representatives in the 117th Congress allow each Representative to submit funding requests for up to 10 projects within their district for FY22, without any guarantee of approval. Project requests must fall within a limited scope of federal accounts and direct funds to state and local governments and select non-profits. Each Member must certify that they and their family have no financial interest in any project they request funding. More information can be found here.
Cárdenas’ CPF requests, with full details including accounts, disclosures and letters to the House Committee on Appropriations explaining the requests, are available here and below.
