Press Release

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Tony Cárdenas (D-San Fernando Valley) released the following statement in response to the president-elect’s selection of Stephen Bannon as White House senior advisor:

“Over the course of the past couple of days, dozens of my constituents have reached out to me to communicate their concern and outrage at various government appointments made by the president-elect, particularly Stephen Bannon as White House senior advisor.

“Mr. Bannon has time and time again demonstrated that he is a man full of hatred towards millions of Americans. By elevating somebody like him to the White House, the president-elect has chosen to normalize Mr. Bannon’s bigotry.

“Our Founders built our great nation on the rock-solid principle that all men are created equal, and are endowed with unalienable rights. To place in Mr. Bannon’s hands the responsibilities of a senior advisor to the President is to cast away our founding principles without regard to the Constitution of the United States. Public servants have a responsibility to the American people and must be held at a higher standard. I oppose the president-elect’s actions and will do all I can to ensure his hateful rhetoric and actions do not influence our government.”
