TUESDAY: CÁRDENAS HOSTS HOLLYWOOD WRITERS IN COMCAST-TIME WARNER DISCUSSION
(Washington, DC) -- U.S. Rep. Tony Cárdenas (D-San Fernando Valley) will continue his examination of the proposed Comcast-Time Warner merger TOMORROW, as he hosts a roundtable discussion with the Writers Guild of America, West, regarding their concerns with the merger.
Cárdenas has been one of the elected officials most concerned with media consolidation issues potentially present in the proposed merger. Along with staff and personal research into the issues surrounding the merger, Cárdenas was praised, by FCC Commissioner Tom Wheeler, for his work encouraging a settlement of a dispute, regarding Dodgers baseball broadcasts, between cable operators and Time-Warner Cable in Los Angeles. During that his work on that dispute, Cárdenas has also had several opportunities to discuss his concerns with the Comcast-Time Warner merger with Commissioner Wheeler.
Writers Guild of America, West is an organization representing more than 8,000 professional writers of motion pictures, television, radio, and Internet programming, including news and documentaries. Because the WGAW membership will be directly affected by the merger, they will be discussing issues that will impact the media industry as a result of the merger.
Cárdenas will be joined by writers Alfredo Barrios of “Burn Notice” and Patric Verrone of “Futurama.”
The roundtable will take place TOMORROW, Tuesday, September 30th at 9:30 a.m. in 1416 Longworth House Office Building in Washington.
