CÁRDENAS STATEMENT ON TEXAS IMMIGRATION CASE

CÁRDENAS STATEMENT ON TEXAS IMMIGRATION CASE

(San Fernando Valley, Calif.) – Following the initial ruling by a Texas district court, U.S. Rep. Tony Cárdenas (D-San Fernando Valley) issued a statement regarding the temporary hold placed on executive orders, issued by President Obama, to protect millions of undocumented workers in this country.

"I am disappointed, but not shocked, that an activist judge, who has made statements related to immigration that are out of the mainstream, would continue damaging the American economy by prolonging uncertainty that hurts both American companies and hard-working men and women who just want to build their American Dream," said Cárdenas. "Many of these people are the parents of American citizens, many of them served in the military, or were educated in our school or own small businesses. They each add to our nation's identity and our economy. To ignore those contributions, and destroy the one responsible step being taken toward fixing our broken immigration system, is an embarrassment. I am frustrated that President Obama overcame a Republican-controlled Congress that refused to act, did his job and helped fix that broken system, only to see one judge stop our potential economic growth. I am confident that the next appeals court will see the legal flaws in this ruling and correct this error."
