Cárdenas Statement on EPA’s Decision to Roll Back Clean Power Plan

WASHINGTON, DC – Yesterday, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced its decision to roll back President Obama’s Clean Power Plan (CPP). Congressman Cárdenas releases the following statement:

“This Administration of science deniers is more concerned with appeasing for-profit polluters and special interests than the health of the American people, our children, and the future of our planet. With this decision to dismantle the historic Clean Power Plan, President Trump and EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler are attacking the health and safety of Americans.

“The science is clear – climate change is a very real threat to America’s security and economy. We are witnessing the devastating effects of climate change; the largest wildfires in California’s history, massive floods across the country, and frequent hurricanes ravaging the coasts. While Puerto Rico is still recovering more than a year later from a storm that we know is a result of the climate crisis, President Trump continues his assault on the economy, the American people, and the environment. This is bad policy. My Democratic colleagues and I will continue fighting to protect our environment, ensure that our children drink clean water and breathe clean air, and work towards a carbon-neutral world.”

Congressman Cárdenas is a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which oversees national energy, health, and communications policies. Cárdenas serves on the Subcommittees on Health, Communications & Technology, and Consumer Protection & Commerce.
