Cárdenas Announces $3 Million in Community Project Funding to LA Family Housing for Housing for Homeless
The federal Community Project Funding will go towards converting the Panorama Inn into The Pano, housing for individuals experiencing homelessness in the San Fernando Valley
SAN FERNANDO VALLEY — Today, Congressman Tony Cárdenas (CA-29) announced $3 million in Community Project Funding to LA Family Housing for their Project Homekey Development. The federal funding will convert the Panorama Inn into The Pano, permanent supportive housing (PSH) for individuals experiencing homelessness in the San Fernando Valley. Additionally, The Pano will provide supportive services designed to build independent living and connect people with community-based healthcare, treatment and employment services. The combination of housing and supportive services will help individuals break the cycle of homelessness.
“Today, we are proving that we can bring hope and opportunity to our homeless neighbors in the Valley,” said Congressman Cárdenas. “Let me be clear: homes end homelessness. These taxpayer dollars will provide permanent housing for people with high barriers to housing stability, along with supportive services designed to build independent living and connect people with community-based healthcare, treatment and employment services. Already, LA Family Housing has been a leader in providing innovative solutions and affordable housing throughout Los Angeles. And now, we are going to help even more people.”
For the first time since 2009, Congress passed Community Project Funding, money requested by Members of Congress to meet the needs of their district. Congressman Cárdenas submitted ten Community Project Funding requests to the Appropriations Committee, all of which were passed in the Fiscal Year 2022 appropriations federal funding package. The over $12 million going to the Northeast San Fernando Valley will support community improvement, housing for the homeless, job training, youth programs, mental health services and more.
