Cárdenas Announces $300,000 in Community Project Funding to El Proyecto Del Barrio for Community Job Training
SAN FERNANDO VALLEY — Today, Congressman Tony Cárdenas (CA-29) announced $300,000 in Community Project Funding for job training programs at El Proyecto del Barrio. The funding will create an intensive training program that will serve under-skilled job seekers. The individuals will develop hands-on work experience in community clean-up, debris removal and related projects that are tied to community involvement.
“Every single person in our community should have the security of a good-paying job,” said Congressman Cárdenas. “Today, I was proud to announce $300,000 to El Proyecto del Barrio for a new program that not only provides job training but pays people while they learn. Thank you, Council President Nury Martinez, for working with our office to create this program that will help clean up our community and get people the skills they need.”
For the first time since 2009, Congress passed Community Project Funding, money requested by Members of Congress to meet the needs of their district. Congressman Cárdenas submitted ten Community Project Funding requests to the Appropriations Committee, all of which were passed in the Fiscal Year 2022 appropriations federal funding package. The over $12 million going to the Northeast San Fernando Valley will support community improvement, housing for the homeless, job training, youth programs, mental health services and more.
